The best way to begin is to follow each of the sections as they are laid out below. Some of the individual and group sections can be worked through simultaneously. The order of the sections is laid out to offer you the most direct way to walk through the information.
Next to each section are links to a corresponding video that gives the information in lieu of reading through the workbook (in many cases the reading is the exact script from the video). However, the skills and exercises are only in the workbook sections.
You are also welcome to download the entire workbook in a single document, if you prefer. Please feel free to contact us if you need any additional help with finding your way to peace.
Please note that this guide is a much more intense approach to trauma work. It is intended to provide background for healing trauma and draws from many streams of therapy approaches. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you find a local therapist trained in EMDR to help you through your trauma processing in conjunction with this guide.

SECTION 1 - UNDERSTANDING TRAUMA AND ITS IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE - this is a brief introduction and first group session information. You will find the corresponding videos (with a lot more detail) here. BACKGROUND AND INTRO VIDEOS
SECTION 2 - WHERE WE'RE HEADING AND BRINGING JESUS ON THE JOURNEY - this section answers the question, "What is Senseless Peace anyway?" This section also describes what a trauma-healing session looks like when we get to that stage in the healing process. SECTION 3 - IDENTIFYING THE SOURCE(S) OF TRAUMA - this is assessment information to help you understand where your trauma(s) come from. You will also be learning where you are today in your healing journey, and, most importantly, where you are headed. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A HUGE SECTION AND YOU MAY WANT TO GIVE YOURSELF A FEW WEEKS TO WORK THROUGH ALL THE INFORMATION. SECTION 4 - SURVIVING TRAUMA - CAPTIVES, SHERIFFS, AND VIGILANTES - this section models ideas from internal family systems. It may help you to understand some of the healthy and unhealthy ways you have learned to live with trauma. Most importantly, it lays out the main reasons why we need to begin working on skills and strategies for both life and for releasing trauma. SECTION 5 - UNDERSTANDING OUR FULL-SYSTEM RESPONSES TO LIFE - an important piece of learning safety and stabilization is to learn more about how everything about us responds and reacts to situations we are in. It's especially important when we start paying more attention to releasing trauma in each area. You will find the corresponding videos here: FULL-SYSTEM INTRODUCTION
SECTION 6 - INCREASING BODY AWARENESS - understanding the places where we need to release trauma as well as learning ways to help our body stay on track is an important step in healing. We'll take a look at a few ways to begin in this section. You will find the corresponding videos here: OUR BODY INTRODUCTION
SECTION 7 - INCREASING BRAIN AWARENESS - understanding how our brain is impacted by trauma, especially in the two sides of our brain helps us further understand talk therapy alone is limited in healing trauma. We'll begin exploring this as well as looking into contemplative and mindfulness practices. You will find the corresponding videos here: OUR BRAIN INTRODUCTION
SECTION 8 - NAMING AND TAMING OUR EMOTIONS - regulating the ways our emotions impact us is huge in trauma healing. Most of us were not ever taught to be aware of our various emotions or the intensity with which they often show up. Here we practice identifying and naming our emotions to stay more in charge. SECTION 9 - INCREASING AWARENESS OF OUR ACTIONS AND URGES - noticing and releasing action tendencies is another important step to healing trauma. Taking positive and intentional actions to stay safe and regulated is also helpful in healing. We'll introduce throwing DARTS at your stress in this section. SECTION 10 - INCREASING AWARENESS OF OUR THOUGHTS AND BELIEFS - thoughts are one of the cornerstones of many approaches to therapy. We'll learn to look at the different levels of thoughts and the beliefs they lead to. Then we'll look at how trauma impacts this aspect of our full system. SECTION 11- UNDERSTANDING MEMORY - how we remember and how memory impacts is really the core of trauma work. One exciting aspect of our memory is that it can and does physically change in our brain when we recall it. You will find the corresponding videos here: UNDERSTANDING OUR MEMORY
